Hi guys, and welcome to Fanbase Music Magazine. Your band name is Perry& Blackwell. Who is Perry, and who is Blackwell, and what does each band member do in the band?
JON PERRY & JAKE BLACKWELL. WE BOTH PLAY GUITARS AND SING AND WRITE ALL THE MUSIC.
Where are each band member from, and how did you get into music?
JON IS PIETERMARITZBURG BORN AND RAISED. JAKE WAS FROM JHB AND WE BOTH WENT TO THE SAME BOARDING SCHOOL IN MOOI RIVER, KZN, AND BECAME FRIENDS. JON’S FATHER WAS A GREAT MUSIC FAN AND BOTH JON AND HIS BROTHER WERE EXPOSED TO THEIR DAD’S MUSIC COLLECTION AND INFLUENCES FROM A YOUNG AGE. JAKE’S FATHER WAS A ROCK SINGER IN VARIOUS BANDS, AND HIS MOTHER, ALSO A BIG MUSIC FAN, WAS ALSO EXPOSED TO ALL THE OLD SCHOOL ROCK LEGENDS AND GREATS.
How did the band members meet, and how did the band get together?
WE MET AT WESTON AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE AND became friends in grade 8. WE BOTH SHARED A PASSION AND LIKING FOR BANDS LIKE OFFSPRING AND NIRVANA. WE were inspired TO WANT ALSO TO WRITE AND PLAY MUSIC AND START A BAND.
How would you describe your sound and genre to the band?
HARD ROCK N ROLL, ROCK
Who are some of the bands’ musical influences, and how much do the influences end up in your own band’s music? – NIRVANA AND OFFSPRING. DEFTONES, METALLICA, NU METAL, OLD SCHOOL LEGENDS LIKE HENDRIX, BEATLES, ZEPPELIN, QUEEN, CREAM, PINK FLOYD, SEAL – ETC
How do you write music? What is the process from start to finish?
OUR SONG WRITING IS VERY CO-CREATIVE. EITHER ONE OF US WILL HAVE A RIFF OR MELODY OR AN IDEA AND SHOW THE OTHER, THEN WE BOTH MOULD AND ADD TO IT FROM THERE.
Okay, let’s talk about your album Volume 1. Why did you name your album Volume 1?
JON LIKED THE WAY LED ZEPPELIN NAMED THEIR ALBUMS, SO WE GOT THE INSPIRATION FROM THAT
How many tracks are on the album?
9 SONGS
There is also a cool Crowded House cover on the album. What is it about that band that made you want to cover their music?
IT WAS Jon’s IDEA. WE BOTH LOVE CROWDED HOUSE (JON’S DAD PLAYED IT A LOT AND INFLUENCED JON AND JAKE). SO WE TRIED IT, LAID ALL THE INSTRUMENTS DOWN AND LUCKILY OUR ROCKED UP/PUNK ROCK VERSION CAME OUT OK LOL
Where was the album recorded, and who else worked on the album
AT JON’S FARM IS A BUILT STUDIO CALLED “BUNKS STUDIO” WAS BUILT. JAKE AND JON RECORDED ALL THE INSTRUMENTS AND VOCALS. IT WAS MIXED AND MASTERED EVERYTHING THERE.
What was the process of making the album?
JAM SESSIONS AND IDEAS SHARED AND MOULDED TOGETHER FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS
Do you have any new music coming out soon?
WE HAVE OUR NEXT MUSIC VIDEO FOR OUR SINGLE “PSYCH” COMING OUT ASAP

In an unfortunate incident, your house is burning down. What are you running back in to save first?
