One of SA’s most popular young singers, Jaakie, is a wakeboard champion with four powerhouse singles to date: “Hulle” with Jack Parow, “Kolwyntjie” with VAN STRATEN, “Dans nie” and now the latest treffer: “Check vir My” with Hunter Kennedy and Fred den Hartog. Jaakie is a phenomenon on social media: he has a couple of thousand followers on his platforms. The sharing of his content has had over 5 million collective views on Instagram, Tik Tok and Youtube Shorts up to date. Add 800,000+ currents on Spotify. Apple Music and so forth and it is evident that Jaakie might just be on his way to superstardom.
Jaakie says: “Welcome to The Nothing Club! I am incredibly grateful to have worked with Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar and Die Heuwels Fantasties) and Fred den Hartog (Die Heuwels Fantasties) on our new song “Check vir My.”
It’s actually crazy to think back… exactly ’a year ago I was still a student. Today I get the chance to live my dream, making music and playing gigs across the country and even in Namibia. All of this started when Fred saw something in me. He took me under his wing and it`s been crazy since then! Everyone also knows Hunter is ‘n legend. Not just as a songwriter and musician, but also as a human being. From the beginning, he made me laugh and think differently about music and how to approach it all.”

“Check vir My” was recorded at Fred’s studio “The Nothing Club” and the song was mixed by Dane Taylor.
Hunter Kennedy says: “It all happened pretty fast. Fred had a riff. Then Jaakie kind of hijacked it. I got on board by writing with Fred a bit more; brought his beach cat energy and there we go! “Check vir My” is a cool upbeat anthem that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Check vir ons!”
The video has a supercool “Miami meets Bellville” feel and was filmed by Peanut Butter Visuals. The director was Michael Elliot en die cinematographer Hendrico Bekker.
