Anica Kiana releases bold and nostalgic new EP ‘not the same.’

South African pop sensation Anica Kiana is set to release her highly anticipated new EP, not the same. A fearless blend of nostalgia, bold femininity, and raw emotion, the project cements Anica’s place as one of the most exciting voices in the country’s pop scene.

“not the same. is a collection of songs that explore my journey through adulthood and coming to the realisation that time has changed everything, and we can’t go back to the way it was when we were younger,” says Anica. “This EP is rooted in nostalgia, and you can hear it in tracks like ‘Not The Same’, ‘Any Other Way’, and ‘Dreamin’, which carry a bold pop-punk 2000s feel.”

The seven-track body of work takes listeners through themes of love, heartbreak, empowerment, and loss:

● ‘Dreamin’ captures the pain of watching someone thrive while you’re left broken, longing to be understood.

● ‘Any Other Way’ is about clinging to love despite the hurt, because letting go feels impossible.

● ‘Little Boy Ego’, ‘One Taste’, and ‘Kiss Me Hard’ showcase Anica’s unapologetic alter ego – the bold, sassy voice that refuses to be silenced.

● The title track ‘Not The Same’ strikes the deepest chord, reflecting on the fleeting nature of time, lost innocence, and the pull of adulthood that leaves less room for the people and moments that once defined us.

Anica shares: “I miss those younger years when life felt wide open and there was always time for the people who mattered most. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that life doesn’t slow down – so we have to hold on to the little moments, cherish them, and make them count.”

About Anica Kiana

Anica Kiana is a South African singer and songwriter whose career began by sharing covers online before breaking out with her debut single Chasing in 2019. The track quickly gained radio support and earned chart success, setting the stage for her rise in the local music industry.

Since then, Anica has become a standout voice in SA pop, collaborating with heavyweights like Locnville and Nasty C, and delivering hit singles including Electric (which hit #1 on Heart FM), Gotta Leave featuring Nasty C, and Narc Boy, a radio favourite in 2022. Her debut EP, Happily Never After, followed that same year.

2023 and 2024 further solidified her stardom, with singles Little Boy Ego and Kiss Me Hard dominating local charts, the latter reaching #1 on 5FM’s Pop Chart. In recognition of her artistry, she was recently nominated for Pop Artist of the Year at the Basadi in Music Awards.
