I gave Randy’s ‘Cat’s In the Cradle’ a listen and this is what I thought:

I was very excited to hear Randy’s take on Harry Chapin’s classic, which was originally a poem written by Chapin’s wife, Sandy. The lyrics were inspired by her first husband’s relationship with his father — and by a country song she once heard.

While the song is about a father who’s too busy to give his son the attention he needs, only for the son to later repeat the cycle, it holds a very personal meaning for me.

If you know me, you’ll know I’m the typical crazy cat lady — we have 13 indoor cats and 17 outside! Two years ago, one of my mother’s cats, Nicky — a blue-eyed, three-legged flame point Siamese — started showing signs of feline leukemia. My mom asked me to help since I had done a feline first aid course, but sadly, sweet Nicky had to be put to sleep.

We were heartbroken. He was only two and a half years old. It felt like I had failed my mother, and most of all, Nicky. I asked Duzzy Clayton (Fanbase CEO) to play Ugly Kid Joe’s version of “Cat’s In the Cradle” on his Lunch and Brunch radio show — in loving memory of Nicky, our “little boy blue” with fur as white as the moon.

When I heard Randy’s version, all those emotions came flooding back, and I was in tears. “We’ll get together then, you know we’ll have a good time then” — I know we will, when we meet him again at the rainbow bridge.

Sorry for the sad story, but isn’t that what a truly great song does? It awakens emotion. Randy’s version is soft and warm — like a comforting blanket. It brought tears, but also peace. Nicky is free from pain now, and we can celebrate his life.

Well done, Randy, for making us feel something real. Your version reminds us what it means to be human.

Randy C Moore brings new life to a timeless classic with his heartfelt rendition of “Cat’s In the Cradle.” Blending nostalgia with sincerity, Moore’s version feels deeply personal — a song that reaches across generations, reminding us of love, loss, and the moments that slip by too quickly. For me, it also brought back the memory of a little soul who left too soon — a reminder that great music doesn’t just tell stories; it helps us heal.
