Gareth Haze Stars Review

Gareth Haze is back with his new single called ‘Stars’. He has also officially released his new EP ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’. Along with the song produced with his brother Mark Haze, it finds South African-born, UK-based singer-songwriter Gareth Haze drawing on his multi-instrumental roots and family musical lineage to create a striking alternative rock single. Gareth’s work moves fluidly between folk, rock, pop, and blues.

At the start of the song, there is a crisp, beautiful acoustic strum, and then Gareth’s beautiful angelic voice starts off the song. The lyrics sing about things he doesn’t need, and the only thing he really needs is the person he is singing to — and that is enough for him. That seems to be the primus of the song for now. However, when you listen to the lyrics, I can already tell this is going to be a well thought out, deep song with thoughts that go through Gareth’s head and are now put into song. Gareth’s voice sounds amazing on the track and really accommodates the nice guitar sound that starts off the song.

At this point, I would like to make mention of the production, sound, and engineering of the song. As mentioned before, Gareth’s brother Mark Haze co-produced the song and also the whole EP. Something about a great musician such as Mark Haze — who also has a great ear for producing and knowing what will work there — just simply takes the song to a new level, almost like a secret weapon, if you will. The two brothers seem to work well together, and I think their parents can be very proud of their sons.

By the time we get into the chorus, I am already so captivated and invested in the song that without even hearing the rest of the song’s journey, I already know this is a great song. But let’s take the journey anyway and get into that chorus. The lyrics for the chorus go:
‘So, one day when I’m old and it’s time to leave this place. Please don’t bury me six feet down in a fancy wooden case. Burn my body down to ash and blast me into space. So, when you look up at the stars, then you might just see my face.’

To me, these are very deep lyrics to come out of the mind of Gareth — but I would expect nothing less, as when I think about Gareth, I do see him as a deep thinker, and it shows in his lyrics and this song.

I can picture myself listening to this song when I need time to reflect and perhaps just need a bit of time to myself — those days we all need when it is just ourselves and the music.

I would like to congratulate Gareth Haze and all who worked on this amazing song. I look forward to giving the whole EP a listen from start to finish and seeing the journey it takes me on, because if this song or even the previous song ‘Never Have I Ever’ is any indication, then I know it is going to be amazing work.
