GARETH HAZE ~ Never Have I Ever – Single Review

Gareth Haze’s last offering, “Never Have I Ever,” is an amazing track with beautiful lyrics and a very special message behind the track. When I first saw the song title of the song, I immediately thought of the drinking game called “Never Have I Ever”. I think we all can remember that game back in our 20s, where you’re with a group of friends and you take turns saying “Never have I ever…” and then add something you have never done. Then the one in the group who has done it has to take a drink. Well, perhaps a nice play on words, the subject matter of this song couldn’t be further from my 20s drinking game.

Instead, this is a beautiful tribute to a great dad of Gareth Haze, who sadly passed away. Now, before we carry on, this song is also a bit of a brotherly love between Gareth and Mark Haze.. Now Mark Haze is name needs no introduction, he happens to be one of the top musicians South Africa has produced, but not only is he a great musician, he’s also a great producer and just happens to be the producer on this track as well, so not only did Gareth have a great producer for the track,  but it happens to also be his brother which makes this collaboration even more beautiful seeing what the song subject is about which is about these awesome talented brothers Dad.

Starting mellow with Gareth’s unique beautiful vocals, as I am settling into the mood also knowing what the song is about, I am suddenly approached with a cool drum beat and the song is taking you on a fun musical journey, Without giving my prediction too much on why they took this approach, I would like to think that instead of it being a sad tribute of a loss of a great dad, perhaps Gareth decided to make this song a special celebration of his late dad’s life which I think would be unique way to look at it and way to how to mourn a loss of a parent.

Having said that, the lyrics of the song are meaningful and touch on missing your dad after a loss, and it shows the love Gareth and Mark Haze had for their Father.

The playful folk guitar sounds kind of mixed with an upbeat punk vibe influence, bringing a lot to the song and its uniqueness.

When I ever I get to review a song that has been produced, I find myself saying the musician is always so lucky to work with Mark Haze and his talent because it is almost like having a secret weapon to make a good song great, and that is evident on this song also as Mark always brings a freshness and talent to the song, even more so because I think Gareth is Mark’s brother, and has also obviously affected by their dads passing, he understands what the song needs and also how to get the best out Gareth, which is a pretty good position to be in because that would only be good for the song. And it does show i the quality of the song and how it came across to us, the listener

I can picture myself listening to this track when I may think of passed loved ones and although it is a sad occasion but also to be reminded that life is short life is to celebrated, I do hope anyone who has lost someone close in their life, can take a listen to this track and remember their loved one with fond memories and get comfort from this amazing song.

I would like to congratulate the Haze brothers on a very special track. I am sure your dad is smiling down on you and is so proud of you both.

Lyrics | Clean English

Well, today I feel more lost than I feel found
And my feet can’t seem to find that solid ground
So, I came home, but you were already gone
And the clock keeps ticking, sure as life goes on
But never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you

And the grass, it withers; flowers wilt
But my memories of you are strong and true
And the photos might be faded
But the feelings never die, they never do
Oh, never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you

So, I took a trip across this world so round
From the Cape of Storms right back to London Town
And as the sky outside turned from bright blue to grey
Still thinking about words I’ll never, ever get to say
Oh, never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you

And the grass, it withers; flowers wilt
But my memories of you are strong and true
And the photos might be faded
But the feelings never die, they never do
Oh, never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you

As I drive the only road I’ve ever known
Still looking for a place to call my own
Still singing songs you’ll never get to hear
So, let’s sing a song for those we’ve lost
The ones we hold so dear
Oh, never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you

And the grass, it withers; flowers wilt
But my memories of you are strong and true
And the photos might be faded
But the feelings never die, they never do
Oh, never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you

Oh, never have I ever missed someone …
The way that I miss you
