Fanbase Music Magazine catches up with Amanda Page Cornett and talk about her latest single, ‘Hearts On A String’.
Hi Amanda, welcome to Fanbase Music Magazine. Can you tell us where you’re from and how you got into music?
I began making songs up before I could talk! So, music def chose me…but I was crazy enough to pursue it! I started writing songs down when I was 9, so I definitely think I was born with music in my soul.
Have you always wanted to be a musician, or is another profession you would have liked to pursue?
Music has always been the ultimate goal. I love science, too, so I majored in exercise and sport sciences: athletic training at University of Florida. (Go Gators!)
I am cursed and blessed with well roundedness. I didn’t want to lose my passion for music by majoring in music. I often think I would have really enjoyed construction engineering, too.
How would you describe your sounds and genre?
The Almost Angels band and I have been playing together a long time! Over the years, our sound melded into A unique blend which we call Southern Rock n Soul, which incorporates country, rock, soul, blues, etc!

Who are some of the bands/musicians that have influenced you musically?
I have always loved the rebels of music, like Tanya Tucker, Hank Williams Jr, Charlie Daniels, Travis Britt, Pink, The Judds, Janis Joplin and so many more! Growing up in Spartanburg, SC, Marshall Tucker Band was a huge influence, too! Over the years, I’ve added so many influences in different genres, including hip hop, soul funk, rock, alternative, and more!
Can you tell us your writing process?
Nashville is definitely a co writing town, so writers get together and make songs up…then make them sound good.
I am a much stronger lyricist, so I try to write with strong melody writers! Writing sessions may start with a catchy hook line, a cool musical riff, and sometimes an idea will just come out of chatting with each other! There’s no right or wrong way to start, but I’ve learned one of the most important parts of song writing is editing! Revisiting a song and figuring out how to make it stronger is truly invaluable!
Do you have a band that you jam with, or are you a solo artist only?
While technically a solo artist, I’ve been playing with two members of the Almost Angels Band for over 14 years, Randall Scott Peterson (Randy) on guitar and his little sister Sherry Peterson-Tennille on bass! Together with their brother Shawn Peterson, we really developed our sound!
So, I do play solo shows, but I really love playing with my band family!!!
Your latest single, ‘Hearts On A String’, is such a beautiful song. What is the song about?
‘Hearts On A String” is a very relatable song about carrying past hurts around in life.
It’s a reminder that freedom and strength really come when you recognize, acknowledge, and ultimately let go of that baggage, or those “charms on a chain”.

I love your vocals on the track. How do you prepare while you’re putting a song together and about to record it?
My co producer, Randy, and I did six months of production, which included picking songs, working the arrangements, and rehearsing with the band before we went into the studio. We put a lot of work into it. One step I take on vocals is writing notes down so I know how to best get into the mood or feel of each song! It’s so important to me that people can feel the music, not just hear it!
Who else worked the track, and where was it recorded?
I wrote the song with amazing hit songwriter Mark Narmore!
My bandmates played all the main instruments, then we had incredible musicians, including Spooner Oldham, Mark Narmore, Walt Aldridge, Wayne Bridge and more playing on the track as well! We recorded the “Front Porch Rebel” album at NuttHouse Recording studio in Sheffield, AL, which is part of the historic Muscle Shoals area!
What was the process like with recording this song?
It was pretty magical recording in Muscle Shoals and having legendary musicians play on our first full length album! It was truly a dream come true!

What is your hope for anyone who listens to the track?
As with all my music, my hope is for listeners to truly feel the music! Music helps us all realize we are not alone and it can empower us to be our best selves!
Can you explain what one of your live shows is like?
When the Almost Angels and I take the stage, we have so much fun! My bass player has a magnetic energy that pushes me to be a better entertainer! My guitar player and drummer are such great musicians, we really have a blast! I always say “if you’re having half as much fun as we are, you’re having a great time!” We aim to entertain, not just perform!
In your opinion, who are some artists and musicians we should be checking out?
There is so much great indie music out there. Susan Tedeschi and Halestorm are great if you love rock and soul. Some other artists you should check out are Greg Parrish, Chris Nelson, and Dave Isaacs!
Thank you for doing this interview. Do you have any last messages for our readers?
If you love music, please buy the downloads, albums, and merch! Most musicians aren’t making millions…we make music because we love it! All support, whether showing up, buying music and merch, sending a message if a song speaks to you, are all very important to artists!
