BILLY OLIVER- Interview

Billy Oliver Talks to Fanbase Music Magazine About His Latest Track “Dream In Blue’, The Ormidales & More

Intro

Billy Oliver is a really cool musician who I have been a fan of for quite some time. I first originally came across this musician as a member of The Ormidales. Since then, he has released a few solo singles.

He has just released his new single ‘Dream In Blue’, once again Pd Wohl and together they have produced an awesome single

I catch up with Billy to talk about the new single more

Enjoy the read

Hi Billy, welcome to Fanbase Music Magazine, can you remind the readers where you from and how you got into music?

Hello Duzzy, originally from Vancouver, BC, but recently crossed the pond and now lives in Rovinj, Croatia.

How would you describe your sound and genre?

I would have to say a Pop Maniac always focusing on sweet melodies and hooky riffs and ear candy that are put on repeat and hopefully cause ear worms in the listener.

Who are some of the bands that formed your musical taste?

Far too many to list, but I would have to say The Beatles were very influential in my musical upbringing. A cast of thousands as well, with the British Invasion being paramount. Of course, many American stars, from Roy Orbison, Elvis, Gene Pitney, The Righteous Brothers, everything Phil Spector produced to the Beach Boys, Traveling Wilburys, to Brit heroes Bowie and Bryan Ferry, to name a few.I was brought up with the radio always on in the kitchen, so I was exposed to countless songs growing up. My mom was a wonderful singer and soothed me to sleep in her arms singing the radio hits of the time.

When you write your music, do you inspire to make music like those bands, did they influence the music you write today?

Never look to duplicate, but certainly may use them as a starting point and the vibe we are after. It’s always nice to reference a song or band so PD gets the idea as well.

The last time we spoke you released Rain on me, feat. P.D Wohl, how did you feel that song did on stations and online?

I suppose it did OK, a drop in the bucket if you stack it up to the astronomical numbers I see major artists receiving. I just plainly don’t have the resources to reach the masses as they do.

Speaking of radio you have a great PR lady Catherine from CJC Promotions, how has it been working with her?

I have been working with Catherine for a few years now and owe her hard work and dedication to getting me onto the desk of presenters worldwide.

Many people would recognise you from The Ormidales. What’s the latest from the band front, or are you focusing only on solo work now?

We have just released “The Very Best of The Ormidales” on Wohl Of Sound Records in Vancouver with an eye on new material this fall with a second “Best Of” album as well in the future.

Okay, let’s talk about the latest track Dream In Blue, which is such a great track, what is the song about?

My favourite colour is blue. I envisioned dreaming in blue as it has a very strong spiritual connection to me. I researched it and found it could evoke serenity or pain. In the song I write” I only dream in blue, might change a hue or two”. So, I took the song from that perspective.I had a nice melodic chord structure to build on.

PD Wohl features on the track again, what does he bring to the song this time round?

His magic! He is a superbly talented musician and I am honoured he thinks my music is worthy,

Where was it recorded and what was the process like?

It was recorded at his studio in Vancouver, Wohl Of Sound’

We work very, very well together and laid down the structure quickly.

Can you tell me your writing process and how you put this song together?

I never sit down to write a song as it just doesn’t happen that way for me. When the muse hits, I have a good idea within minutes of where it is heading. I then throw a quick demo down, so the melodic ideas are not lost. Like doing a sketch before a painting

Can you tell us what you have coming up next in terms of music?

I have two more releases coming over the next while with Pd that we are very excited about, as well as an acoustic version of one of them on “Wohl Of Sound Acoustic” release featuring several artists, including Mar Branscombe, my co-Ormidale  and Stepson Mario Basic will contribute.

Thank you for doing this interview, do you have any last messages for our readers? Don’t touch that dial! Just warming up!

Thanks for the support and please go check out my latest single
