David Derman channels heartbreak into new song “I Know You”.
Cape Town-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist David Derman releases his brand-new single “I Know You”. At once intimate and powerful, “I Know You” dives into the heartbreak of betrayal in that disorienting moment when someone you loved and trusted reveals a side of themselves you never expected.
“This song is about the heartbreak that comes from losing the relationship of someone you thought you truly knew,” shares Derman. “It’s about that moment when differences stop being just disagreements and start to feel like betrayals. Performing this song allows me to transform a kind of pain that I couldn’t express in plain words into something real.”
Blending poetic songwriting with raw emotion, Derman captures the haunting frustration of realizing that love and trust can quickly turn to resentment, creating a universal anthem for anyone who has experienced loss and disillusionment.

DAVID DERMAN
David Derman is a Cape Town-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose journey into music began at just six years old, inspired by watching his mother play Spanish guitar. With a deep-rooted family connection to music, including a great-grandfather who was a renowned conductor and multi-instrumentalist, creativity was always close to home. His school years at Rondebosch Boys High played a key role in shaping his early performance skills, guiding him as he developed his voice and style.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Ed Sheeran, Kaleo, Noah Kahan and Ziggy Alberts, David blends poetic song writingwith raw emotion, exploring themes of healing, love, and pain. David’s musical identity is not to be defined by genre, but by the exploration of storytelling in the many colours and filters that the human experience offers us through memories and perception. He believes that genre and chord progression are merely the supporting flesh of the stories that will take you deeper than the words can penetrate on their own.
David is finally chasing his dream, which is to record and release all the music he has written during his studies in university where he completed degrees majoring in molecular biology, psychology and a masters in Wine Biotechnology.
